It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of June already. The summer weather might have been off to a slow start, but that certainly never seems to slow things down for any of us at NER. Our fundraising dinner was held on Friday, June 3rd. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun and the new venue turned out to be a perfect choice! We had ample room, many windows to look out, a beautiful sunset, a great crowd….. we simply could not have asked for a better night.
A very special thank you to Linda Tschetter and her wonderful team of volunteers for all the great work they did to make this evening such a wonderful success! Thanks also to everyone for all of your support, in whatever form it was given: a silent or live auction donation, a donation of cash or a ticket, and of course to those who joined us for a wonderful dinner and evening.
Coming up next is one of my favorite events of the year, the resident/client luau. The luau is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12th at Walton Park in Oakdale. It is always so much fun for everyone and a great time to see the people we serve and their families come together for an evening of good food, music, and dancing outdoors.
Then on Monday, August 15th, we have our annual golf tournament. This will be the first time the golf tournament has been in August and it will also be the first time that it will be held at Indian Hills Golf Club in Stillwater.
I also want to take a moment to thank John Heller and Don Bordsen for agreeing to co-chair the NER parents’ group. There was a meeting held on Wednesday, June 1 at the main office. Andrea Ayres from the MN State Ombudsman’s office was there to address the group and share with everyone the role that her office plays in supporting and advocating for people with disabilities.
The next parents’ meeting is scheduled for July 20th at 11:00 AM. The guest speaker will be from The Alzheimer’s Association (DD division). As always, family members are welcome to attend. I hope that many family members will be able to find time to take part in the parents’ group. If there is a topic of interest or if you are interested in learning more about what the parents group plans to do, please contact John or Don. It is all about you and you can make it whatever you want it to be.
As for me, my job is to support your loved ones and the employees in every way possible. I am more than willing to do that for the parents’ group as well, but I want it to be your group, with your ideas, and your input. Please never hesitate to call or e-mail John or Don or me if you have any questions. (Call NER office for conact information 651 765-0217).
Thanks, and may you all have a blessed, happy, and busy summer.
Corrine
