It's the right of all children. All adults. And anyone with developmental disabilities. To have the ability to live, work, play, and make choices. To give back to their community and enrich the lives of those around them.
This is a 4-hour initial orientation. During this course, newly hired staff complete the initial employee paperwork, and receive training on the following topics: The Vulnerable Adult Act & Reporting Procedures, Emergency Procedures, Osha standards, Company policies, and the job description. At the end of this course, new employees also register for all required training and certifications.
Behavioral Intervention
During this 4-hour course, employees receive training on various topics including redirection techniques, the use of positive and least restrictive approaches, tips for reducing recurring challenging behaviors, and the aversive and deprivation procedures. Employees also learn and practice techniques of safe physical intervention.
First Aid/CPR
This is a 4-hour American Heart Association course. This class covers Standard Heartsaver First Aid, and the most up to date Cardio-Pulmonary resuscitation methods.
Documentation
During this 2-hour course, employees learn the purpose of documentation, and the standards for documentation in various records such as daily progress notes, program plans, behavior support plans, and incident/accident reports.
Communication
This is a 2-hour course that teaches employees about the components of effective communication and good listening skills to be able to effectively communicate with various groups such as co-workers, residents, visitors, and management staff.
Active Treatment
The aim of this 2-hour course is to teach employees how to actively involve the residents in their own lives by always offering them opportunities to make choices pertaining to their daily lives.
Orientation 2
New direct care staff participate in this 3½-hour class during their third month of employment. The goal is to relate the principles of Active Treatment and Resident Rights to the actual job duties the staff have been learning. This is an interactive class, involving role-play and round-table discussion of typical resident situations.
